Nominator's project description
Professor Vafa is well known internationally for his ground-breaking research in theoretical high-energy physics, quantum gravity, and string theory. His most important contributions include the first construction of orbifold string compactifications, the discovery of the black hole microstates in string theory, the discovery of F-theory compactifications, and ground-breaking results in Mathematical Physics like founding the so-called Swampland Program. During his research stay in Germany, he plans to determine the implications of the Swampland conjectures for the hierarchy problem in particle physics and cosmology. |
